In the actual process of running a gas chromatograph, a sample is run by using a
syringe to inject your compound into the injector port, which leads to a column. A
carrier gas (in our case helium) is utilized in order to carry the sample on to the column.
The various compounds in the sample will separate (according the factors previously
mentioned) and result in the appearance of peaks at different locations on your
chromatogram
