Two-way immersion (TWI) programs have been gaining popularity over the past decade, and have recently begun to
proliferate at a rapid pace across the United States. In TWI programs, language minority and language majority students
are integrated for all or most of the day and receive content and literacy instruction through both English and the
minority language, with the goals of promoting academic achievement, bilingualism and biliteracy development, and
