Ordination gone wrong: Driver burns rubber, monk-to-be thrown from truck
SAMUT SAKHON - When young Thai men are ordained as monks, they are traditionally carried on the shoulders of a relative, or more recently by pickup truck, from their home to the temple.
In Samut Sakhon, this monk -to-be, or nak, sits on a chair in the back of a modified pickup truck with his father and friend as the parade to the temple is about to begin. However, the driver decides to start the holy ride to the temple with an impressive grand show (show off).
When the driver is satisfied with the rubber-burning, smoke - billowing and tarmac - blackening stunt, he impetuously accelerates forward.
All three passengers are thrown from the truck.
The young nak's friend lands head first on the road and is knocked unconscious (knocked out).
The nak and his father are slightly injured. The band stops playing music. People at the parade gather around him expressing concern and some blaming each other.
