1) collect a broad array of soil samples representing a wide variety of physicochemical properties, 2) determine soil pH and other characterization parameters via traditional laboratory methods, 3) scan all soils with PXRF for elemental quantification, and 4) establish the relationship between the datasets using statistical methods. We hypothesize that PXRF elemental data can successfully be used as a predictive proxy for soil pH; models relating the two datasets will be created and tested via correlation.
