The regulator subsystem is
a “basic type of adaptive process” that
“responds automatically through neural,
chemical, and endocrine coping processes”
(Roy & Andrews, 1991, p. 14).
The cognator subsystem coping process
“responds through four cognitiveemotive
channels: perceptual/information
processing, learning, judgment and emotion” (Roy&Andrews, 1991, p.
14). Additionally, neurological function
is essential to regulator and cognator
processing, and thus, important to a person’s
adaptation (Roy & Andrews,
1991).
