A successful community partnership was established in the early stages of the project. The flexible approach to delivery of the intervention fostered the partnership so that all partners felt empowered to influence the project direction. A number of meetings were held to identify the best strategies for recruitment, informing parents, collecting data, delivering the classroom content, and delivering the coaching sessions. The two schools of nursing adopted
different coaching formats based on their nursing curricula and clinical practica requirements. This was important to accommodate in the project and resulted in a win–win positive collaboration. Focus groups were held at each of the elementary schools at the end of the school year with all participating agency members invited. Questions asked included: (1) what were the strengths of the program; (2) what were the challenges in participating; (3) how did the program fit into the goals for the children; (4) what should be done differently; (5) what should be eliminated; (6) how could parents be better engaged; (7) reactions to having the nursing students meet with children during school hours versus after school hours; and (8) thoughts about continuing the program. Data from these groups are presented by school.
