In-groups and out-groups. In high context cultures there is a strong emphasis on in-groups and a clear distinction between those who belong to a group, e.g., families, friends, neighbours, work groups and those who don't, e.g., non-members, clan, organizations, and foreigners. Individuals identify themselves with only a few groups, with which they have strong bonds. In high context cultures people know how they should act according to rules and situations and what to expect from the behavior of others. This is in contrast to the low-context cultures, where the emphasis is on out-groups, people typically belong to many groups through lifetimes.
