Although women today have more 1rights than ever before, there is still a long way to go before they can enjoy 2equality with men. Research shows that in many countries, women earn less than men. Also, fewer women in 3professional jobs reach the top jobs. There are far fewer women CEOs (chief executive officers – people in charge of companies) than men CEOs. Men have far more opportunities for exerting power than women. Japan, for example, has one of the lowest proportions of women in 4government of any developed 5nation. In some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, women still cannot 6vote. Also, many cultures still have a strong 7belief that a son is better than a daughter. In countries like India and China, this causes a great 8division in the population, as there are now many more boys than girls.
