Dog carcasses discovered in the trunk after car accident
Following a car accident in the city of Shangqiu, Henan Province, police discovered a batch of dog carcasses that were piled in the back of the trunk, local media outlet dahe.cn reported on Saturday.
Witnesses say that the black sedan, which is registered in Anhui Province, collided with another car earlier and tried to flee. However, they were soon stopped by the crowd afterwards, who smelled an “unusual odor” inside the car.
As local residents opened the trunk, they found the dog carcasses inside. “This car must belong to a dog trafficking gang,” said a witness surnamed Liu. “They could transfer these dogs to other places to sell,” another woman said.
Only one passenger in the black car was seized by the crowd, but a few others, including the driver, managed to run away from the scene. No one knows whether these dogs were killed before being loaded into the car, or suffocated during the shipment.
Later on the police arrived at the scene to remove the dogs from the car. The report said there were an estimated 40 -50 dogs of different breeds. Since the case is still being investigated, police declined to reveal any details so far.
