The FBI is renewing a search for a notorious serial killer known as the "Original Night Stalker" who killed at least 12 people and committed 45 rapes in California in the 1970s and 1980s.
The law enforcement agency announced a $50,000 reward on Wednesday as it launched a nationwide social media campaign.
The killer accumulated at least four nicknames over the years as authorities linked him, through DNA and other evidence, to more than 175 crimes between 1976 and 1986.
"Regardless of the amount of time that has passed," said Sgt. Paul Belli of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, "the sheriff’s department never gave up on the investigation. This person ruined a great number of lives, and he should be held accountable.
