It can be easy to confuse individual rights violations with
systemic rights violations, as all violations are carried out
by human beings. However, when you play the activities
in this manual and engage children in discussions, it is very
important that you help children uncover the root cause
of a rights violation. When answering the question, “Why
are my rights violated?” many children immediately begin
blaming the adults they believe are responsible for a
violation. This can lead to resentment of parents,
guardians and teachers. But the reality may be that, in
many cases, parents, guardians and teachers are forced
to live within the rules and norms that have been
established by the systems that they are living within.
