While, overall, current HR initiatives supporting the employment of persons with
disabilities reflect a rather limited proactive approach by the participating hotel
organisations, employment agencies across the different destinations agreed that there
are hotel organisations that show some openness and willingness to employ persons with
disabilities. According to respondents, in particular, smaller, independent hotels have
recruited persons with disabilities in the past. Interviewees explained that it might be the
smaller hotels’ flexibility in their recruitment processes and selection criteria and/or the
governmental subsidies that makes persons with disabilities attractive employees.
