The prevalence of patients with PrUs is 3–11% in hospitalized adults and 2.5–24% in
long-term care facilities. Persons who are 65–70 years of age most commonly develop PrUs.
The prevalence of PrUs in quadriplegic and orthopedic patients is 60%. Up to 95% of PrUs
are thought to be preventable. The highest percentage of PrUs is reported in older patients
who are Black, and the lowest percentage is reported in older patients who are White; the
percentage of Hispanic patients who develop PrUs is between the percentage reported in
Blacks and Whites
