The NRL has been demonstrated to perform some biological actions and it has been employed to accelerate skin regeneration [27]. It also finds applications as drug delivery systems in guided bone regeneration [28,29], as biomaterial in vascular prosthesis fabrication [30], and as biomembranes for angiogenic processes [31,32]. Indeed, silver nanoparticles have already been synthesized in NRL matrix via photo reduction of an NRL film containing silver salt. For the reduction of the silver ions in the NRL matrix a high intensity mercury lamp was used with a wavelength in the ultraviolet region [21].
