delivery of quality care through the nurses our faculty prepare.
With a national and international impact,
the NLN is the leader in nursing education.
The NLN is committed to its members;
we have built a diverse, sustainable, and member-led
organization with the capacity to deliver our mission effectively, efficiently, and in accordance
with our values.
Voicing the interests of the nursing education community in political, academic, and profes-
sional arenas,
the NLN champions nurse educators.
The NLN advances the science of nursing education,
promoting evidence-based nursing education and the
scholarship of teaching.

The Academy of Nursing Education
fosters
excellence in nursing education by recognizing
and capitalizing on the wisdom of outstanding
nurse educators. Fellows support the vision of
the NLN to promote standards of excellence in nursing education. They serve as resources for new
educators and for those in clinical practice who hope to some day enter the
academic community.
The specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities of nurse faculty are recognized
and rewarded through the
Academic Nurse Educator Certification Program.
Certification, a universally recognized mark of professionalism, raises the visibility
and status of the academic nurse educator role as an advanced professional practice discipline with a
defined practice setting. More than 1,000 CNE-credentialed nurse educators have already passed the
rigorous certification exam, communicating to students, peers, and the academic and health care com-
munities that the highest standards of excellence are being met.
Schools of nursing that distinguish
themselves by outstanding achievement in the promotion of
excellence in nursing education are publicly acknowledged through the NLN’s
Centers of
Excellence in Nursing Education Program
. The three-year designation is based on sustained
demonstration of excellence in faculty development, nursing education research, or student learn-
ing and professional development.
Designed to facilitate understanding of the complexity of the nursing education enterprise
and stimulate thinking among faculty and students about the concepts of excellence, the NLN
Excellence in Nursing Education Model
illustrates the elements needed to achieve excellence
in our schools of nursing.
