South Korea's LG Display and the panel-making unit of Samsung Electronics will supply organic light emitting diode(OLED) screens for Apple iPhones, the Electronic Timeshas reported. The report comes after years of speculation that Apple would start using the next-generation technology in its phones. OLED screens are thinner and offer better picture quality than the mainstay liquid crystal display(LCD) screens. Japan's Nikkei newspaper reported recently that Apple planned to start using OLED screens for iPhones starting in 2018. A South Korean regulator has ordered Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors to sell part oftheir stakes in the steelmaking affiliate Hyundai Steel in accordance with regulations concerning big industrial groups. The Fair Trade Commission did not disclose how many shares Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors must sell under the rules on circular shareholding chains. The local newspaper Donga Ilbo reported that the duo had been ordered to sell a combined 8.81 mil- lion shares worth 460billion won(US$393 mil- lion) in Hyundai Steel to comply with the rules.
