Organizational Health and Teacher Efficacy
A study by Hoy and Woolfolk (1993) examined the relationships between teacher efficacy and the aspects of a healthy school climate. A random sample of teachers from 37 New Jersey urban and suburban elementary schools completed the Teacher Efficacy Scale and the OHI for elementary schools. Results indicated that a healthy school climate (high ratings on a majority if not all of the six dimensions) was conducive to the development of personal teaching
efficacy. Therefore, the results suggest that teachers’ confidence that they can successfully reach students is supported by organizational factors. Furthermore, the data indicated that institutional integrity and morale predicted general teaching efficacy, further demonstrating that the two dimensions of teaching efficacy (personal and general) are separate sets of beliefs.
