Field-based action groups have been energized and guided by outside activists who have provided critical inputs to initiate local action. These groups vary in the degree of people's inputs and participation in their organization structures. The three case studies considered in this section, Dasholi Gram Swarajya Sangh (DHSS), Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) and Kidhore Bharati, are from the northern hills of Uttar Pradesh, urban Gujarat, and rural Madhya Pradesh (respectively). They deal with several issues but mainly with ecology (DGSS), organization of self-employed women (SEWA), and rural education (Kishore Bharati).
