The creation of bimetallic Pd/Pt nanoparticles was further confirmed
by XRD. Fig. 6(a) shows an XRD pattern of networked SnO2
nanowires without any functionalization. The bare SnO2 nanowires
can be identified by the tetragonal rutile structure with lattice constants
of a = 0.473 nm and c = 0.318 nm (JCPDS Card No. 88-3722).
Fig. 6(b) shows an XRD pattern of bimetallic Pd/Pt nanoparticlefunctionalized
SnO2 nanowires. In addition to the diffraction peaks
of SnO2, reflections by Pd and Pt are also observed. The peaks
denoted by the solid and open circles are caused by Pd and
Pt nanoparticles, whose lattice constants are a = 0.389 nm (JCPDS
Card No. 89-4897) and a = 0.397 nm (JCPDS Card No. 88-2343),
respectively. This again confirms the creation of bimetallic Pd/Pt
nanoparticles by -ray radiolysis.
