When we sign a check we are agreeing to pay a sum of money, and when we join a company we agree to give our time and energy to meet the organization's goals. In both these cases it is obvious what we are responsible to. But what about when two people get married and agree to behave a certain way? or what about the situation in which your employees are not performing and your boss wants you to hit a target? In these two situations there is a clear responsibility to something but there is also a danger that we will feel responsible for someone(see Figure 5.1).
