Prior research does not clearly link employee benefits (health insurance, vacation time, etc.) to enhanced job performance (e.g., Carlson, Upton, & Seaman, 2006); however, extant evidence does suggest that benefits practices are related to employee commitment (Noe et al., 2009). This makes sense due to the fact that individual job performance does not impact the typical employee benefit plan; however, it can directly influence the amount of incentive compensation received and the growth rate of a business.
