Development of drug formula from Tinospora crispa stems was performed according to modem medicinal standards and technique. Stems of T. crispa, collected from various sources, were cleaned and dried. The weights of dried stems were approximately 18 to 22% of their starting weights. Although the trace amounts of insecticide and arsenic substances were found in some lots, the level found, however, were not toxic to humans. Powder of 500 mg T. crispa stem was prepared in a form of capsule. It was noticed that the total amount of powder could directly be filled into a number O-sized capsule with much time-consuming because of its fluffy property. Another formula was, therefore, developed by making tablet from powder using Microcrystalline Cellulose at 7% of powder weight and using dry granulation technique. The tablet was then filled into the empty number O-sized capsule. The capsule produced by this method possessed good uniformity of weight and rapid disintegration.
