Music Psychotherapy and Counseling (MPC)-MPC includes a wide range of music uses to
(a) induce and change moods, (b) provide cognitive reorientation, (c) train affective behavior
responses, (d) train social skills, and (e) provide musical incentive training for behavior
modification. Music applications include, among others, guided listening and active music
making with composed and improvised music. Music involvement leads to appropriate
emotional expressions; social interactions; and orientation to person, time, and place; along with
opportunities to develop impulse control and mood management that facilitate improved
psychosocial functions (Thaut, 1999b ).
