For the purposes of this study, the terms trade show and exhibition are used interchangeably to denote a temporary marketplace. A convention is defined as an association event offering educational sessions and an exhibition. A trade show attendee is defined as a delegate attending the trade show component of the convention with specific business goals and objectives in mind (Robbe, 2000). A large convention center is operationally defined as a site capable of hosting a trade show with exhibit space of over 1 million square feet.
