A third important construct that contributes to perceived contract breach is employee
vigilance, defined as the extent to which the employee actively monitors how well the organization
is meeting the terms of his or her psychological contract (Morrison and Robinson, 1997). Not
only will vigilant employees be more likely to detect instances of true contract breach, but
because they are on the lookout for contract breach, they may be more likely to perceive that the
organization has failed to meet an obligation even when there is some ambiguity about whether
this is the case.
