Malaysia Airlines’ performance and future challenges
Today, MAS operates across six continents in more than 100 different locations (only 16 of them domestic) employing nearly 20000 people and flying 50000 passengers per year.
In 2005, MAS came close to bankruptcy, with a reported net loss of RM 1.3 billion. By 2007 it had turned the situation around to a record profit of RM851 million, post tax, with cash generation initiatives giving MAS a balance sheet of RM4.6 billion. That had dropped to RM3.5 billion by 2008 due to the purchase of new aircraft.
