Like terminal markets, WPMs are potential candidates to become urban distribution centers for the food supply chain, and they can be grouped with intermodal platforms (i.e. Padua) and transit points (i.e. La Rochelle) for their logistics role. In practice, WPMs perform the functions of Food Hubs, by providing food a market place for local producers and global food suppliers, and the functions of a UDC, by consolidating produce deliveries to urban food businesses.
