We believe that Organization Development is ready to move out from the shadow of other social science disciplines. This is both its practical and research challenge. Practically, Organization Development must demonstrate that it is more than change management and that Organization Development can improve not only effectiveness but also the capacity of a system to change in the future. The development of a codified practice base will raise the overall quality of current practice, and the pursuit of a coordinated research agenda will help to distinguish Organization Development from other social sciences as well as create a knowledge management system for learning as organizations develop.
