Faculty participants in this project had the opportunity to
showcase and discuss their work in a colloquium attended
by more than 50 university faculty and administrators at the
culmination of the spring 2008 semester. It is this type of public
forum that validates the importance of the nature of this
work and fosters interest in teaching for excellence in a university
setting. Showcasing our implementation of the 4MAT
model at the colloquium exposed other university instructors
to thinking about the efficacy of their own teaching and optimally,
for some, was the impetus to learn more about how
to impact student learning using 4MAT. Utilizing the 4MAT
model within the context of a SoTL project that included ongoing
opportunities for collaboration is evidence that faculty
in higher education can successfully collaborate to improve
pedagogical approaches to meet the diverse learning styles
of students across different disciplines.
