The school nurse measured children’s height and weight at four points in time: one year before the present study, at baseline conditions, during follow-up conditions two weeks after KCP
application, and during follow-up conditions six months later. She had over 10 years of experience taking such measurements for children in the school district, and she remained blind to children’s group assignments. Children were measured on days with similar temperatures, and children were asked to remove their shoes, coats, and heavy sweaters. Measurements were taken with standardized scales during 2 h before lunch, or at least 1 h after lunch so that children’s weight would not be altered significantly by foods consumed at lunch.
