Motivation, according to Dörnyei and Ottó (1998), is “the dynamically changing cumulative arousal in a person that initiates, directs, coordinates, amplifies, terminates, and evaluates the cognitive and motor processes whereby initial wishes and desires are selected, prioritized, operationalised and (successfully or unsuccessfully) acted out” (p. 65). This comprehensive definition touches upon every aspect of the construct that is relevant to the present study. Thus, in the present study, motivation is the dynamic stimulus within an individual which activates mental and physical activity, creates desires and realizes them with or without success.
