Quality Improvement
The equipment used in the conformal coating process has evolved to provide a more
repeatable and higher quality process. As previously discussed, the major improvement, to
date, has been going from dip, brush, and spray processes to automated selective coating.
The focus of the following discussion will be limited to the selective coating process. The cost
of low quality can be measured in board rework or scrap, production downtime, and excess
material usage. Within the selective coating process the dispensers, controls, and software
have been developed to further improve the coating quality, reducing quality associated
production costs.
