The lift cycle of the ant has four stages - eggs, larvae, pupa, and adult - and spans a period of 8 to 10 weeks. The queen spends her lift laying eggs. The workers are females and do the work of the nest ; the larger ones, the soldiers, defend the colony. As certain times of the yere, many species produce winged males and the queen establishes a new nest.
