FURTHER ACTION
Older workers are active members of the labor force at 55 years and
above with a high potential of continued efficient and productive performance
in their workplaces; They are covered by labor law, health, safety and social
security policies, but preventive strategies are strongly advocated in particular
advocacy relating to lifestyle behavior and work exposures to potential
hazards from a much earlier age. Adequate medical and safety surveillance
and access of OWs to medical services are most important for the prevention
of pre-mature ageing and physical and mental degeneration. This can only be
made possible if adequate knowledge through research is carried out in the
different aspects of work, work exposures to physical, chemical, ergonomic
and psychosocial hazards and risks and lifestyle-related factors.
