With relation to mechanism of action, quinclorac is known to mimic auxin, making its targets susceptible to epinasty, growth inhibition, chlorosis and necrosis. Quinclorac is considered to be of low toxicity to aquatic and terrestrial organisms including fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae, birds and terrestrial invertebrates, the LC50 (96 h) for fish being >100 mg/L.
