Effect of aqueous and alcoholic plant extracts on mycelial growth and spore germination of anthracnose fungus: Aqueous and alcohol extracts of both Azadirachta indica and Vernonia amygdalina significantly reduced mycelial growth and spore germination of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Table 1). Alcohol extract of Vernonia amygdalina was significantly more effective in mycelial growth reduction of the pathogen than other extracts. It reduced radial growth of mycelia to 3.0 cm2 representing 62.5% reduction and spore germination to 127.33 spores mL-1 representing 66.1% reduction when compared with the mycelial growth and spore germination in the control treatment.
