The number of loci obtained from DNA profiles were compared by the type of surfaces (Fig. 1A) and color of fluorescent fingerprint powder used for dusting (Fig. 1B). Considering the same type of surface, the number of loci, which alleles were present, was comparable to those obtained from the undusted fingerprint samples. These suggested that these different fluorescent fingerprint powders had very little, or no effect on the quality of DNA profile. Variation of the number of loci present may be due to the powder dusting step that may dust away cells that were deposited on the surface. When compared by the surface type, numbers of full STR loci obtained from DNA samples recovered from glass surface were higher than those of glossy magazine paper and plastic sheet. Regardless of the color, number of loci dropout was highest when fluorescent dusted fingerprints were recovered from plastic surface
