Destination South West possessed a tacit understanding of the cruise industry and their reguirements. The project used business to business (B2B) marketing. Personal contacts were also important, developing relationships and encouraging visits to the area by the decision makers all helped to confirm action. Attendance at trade and travel conventions was of importance because it gave Destination South West a presence. Douglas Ward, the author of the Berlitz complete Guide to Cruising & Cruise ships, was appointed honorary president and this link was also thought to be useful because of opportunities to enhance networking and raise the project's profile. The initiative has helped to develop the level of support, quality of welcome and overall focus. In Torbay, for example, shop-mobility trolleys were made available and the mayor attended personally to welcome the passengers. In other ports, such as Plymouth and Falmouth, portable tourist information display units were available for passengers to consult.
