People make the difference and high performers ensure the sustainability of business growth. We therefore need to attract, select and retain talents. Selecting the best means choosing the person with the optimal fit to a task. As tasks might change and as we develop people, the best people also demonstrate their potential to develop and enlarge their skill-set.
We must select people who have the potential to become better than us, not only to help build our company but also to help us achieve our targets and prepare our own replacements. Without successors, we cannot be promoted.
Great people appreciate meritocracy: the best people (great cultural fit and proven track record of performance) grow faster and earn more than the average. Their rewards and opportunities are earned through their contribution to our success and are not something they are entitled to because of their seniority. Great people attract more of the same, but
the reverse is also true.
