Answer
An OCR license can be ordered separately to the hardware. The serial number of the scanner is needed to order an OCR license. Normally the customer will receive a document which contains the serial number of the scanner and a 2D barcode that contains the license key to enable the OCR functionality. The single 2D bar code must be scanned to enable OCR functionality.
If the customer only receives a string of characters then this string of characters can be sent to the device as a command, or by generating a menu bar code and scanning it. Commands can be sent to the scanner via EZConfig for Scanning using the 'Serial Command Window'. In order to connect the scanner to EZConfig-Scanning the scanner has to be set to USB COM Port or RS232 Emulation or USB HIDPOS.
To activate the OCR license via EZ Config-Scanning follow these steps:
1. Connect the scanner via RS232, USB Comport emulation or USB HIDPOS to EZConfig.
2. Copy the license number into the 'Serial Command Window' which can be found on the main menu > View > Serial Command Window and select Send Command.
3. Scanner responds with license key number and [ACK] to indicate the OCR license was successfully activated, or the scanner will respond with a [NAK] if the license key was not successfully activated. The scanner response is visible in 'Scan Data Window'.
If the scanner is not configured for USB COM Port Emulation, USB HIDPOS or no RS232 cable is available there is no need to connect the device to EZConfig-Scanning. A menu code containing the license key can be generated via EZConfig-Scanning by entering the license key into the Serial Command Window and selecting the option to generate a 2D menu command. The 2D menu command can then be scanned directly from the PC display or by printing the 2D menu code.
Note: OCR functionality is included in standard firmware, no additional plug-in or software requires to be installed on the scanner.
