The present investigation on the use of cornstarch and mimosa tannin to prepare cornstarch–mimosa tannin–UF resin shows that particleboard panels with similar mech-anical properties may be obtained by replacing 10 and 4%of commercial UF, respectively, by cornstarch and mimosa tannin, with the additional advantage of leading more eco-friendly products. Cornstarch–mimosa tannin–UF (10:4:86 w/w) resins can be used successfully as a wood adhesive for constructing particleboard. Moreover, the formaldehyde emission levels obtained from boards bonded with cornstarch–mimosa tannin–UF were lower to those obtained from boards made with control UF. Optimum conditions recorded in this laboratory work may be applied to industrial scale.
