An alternative process for the preparation of large particles is pressure agglomeration
or compaction, in which spray-dried material is compressed under high pressure in extruders or presses, maybe together with additional maltodextrin, into lumps and then crushed into small pieces of about 0.7–3.0 mm (Barbosa-Cánovas et al. 2005; Ortega-Rivas 2005; Uhlemann et al. 2002).
