The last days of the Hotel Marshall
It was early summer, and the Hotel Marshall, long Sacramento’s residence of last resort for felons, addicts and the indigent mentally ill, was preparing to close. The Sacramento Kings had approval to construct a new arena a block away, and if all went according to plan, the vermin-infested building at the corner of Seventh and L would be transformed into a market-rate hotel. First, 57 long-term residents had to go. But where?
