The challenge for companies, particularly global ones, is to tackle the perceptions and ideas about LGBT people that have existed for many years. This is a particular issue in countries and cultures where effectively being gay is illegal, such as Algeria, Jamaica and the United Arab Emirates, or those where it is punishable by death, such as Uganda or Saudi Arabia.
Simply stating a company policy of inclusivity is not enough to execute real change, which can only come from implementing a real cultural shift amongst colleagues. While attitudes have changed in societies such as in the UK, where legislation against discrimination protects LGBT employees, there will remain some people who have entrenched views.
