In the present study, ductile cobalt is introduced into an Al2
O3–TiC ceramic to form an Al2
O3–TiC ceramic matrix composite using a
newly developed chemical deposition process rather than conventional powder metallurgy. Experimental results reveal that this chemical
deposition process is an effective method for improving the wetting between ceramic and metal interfaces. The resultant composite exhibits a
higher fracture toughness than that without cobalt. q1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
