.Five sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers have been developed for discriminating AST/ast (Kanzakiet al., 2010). Discriminating alleles are different depending on the markers. SCAR markers identifying A2were developed using an off-spring population derived from ‘Nishimurawase’ (non-PCNA) and ‘Kurokuma’ (non-PCNA), and those identifying A3were developed using a small backcross population derived from ‘Kurokuma.’ But in the practical breeding population, the relationship between fruit astringency type (PCNA or non-PCNA by sensory test) and the genotypes (estimated by the SCAR markers) has not been verified.
