Goal Zero was launched in 2009 to help foster a workplace free from injuries, incidents and defects. Since its inception Goal Zero has been used as an overarching program to underpin HSE culture, operational work practices, and contractor management. One key element of this program is for all employees to take personal responsibility for creating and maintaining an incident free workplace.

Goal Zero culture, performance and standard safety practices build on existing HSE protocols. This is reinforced through an annual Global Safety Day where employees at each company site organize engaging educational activities based upon HSE themes for all workers at the site.
Additionally, LyondellBasell has introduced numerous tools including GoalZERO Workshops and a “Coaching to Goal Zero” program based on behavioral safety principles for management teams and first line supervisors. This program continues to be expanded to include a full suite of cultural change tools and leadership workshops at all levels of the organization.
