Environmental context refers to influences from external factors surrounding the firm.
These factors are normally beyond the control of the firm and in some way influence
the operation of business either positively or negatively. Environmental factors have
been widely examined in previous studies and found to be significantly associated with
the decision to adopt technology. The present study identifies two broad external
factors, external pressure and external support. External pressure covers three
potential determinant factors: competitive pressure, customer pressure, and industry
pressure. External support consists of two potential determinant factors: governmental
encouragement and external support. Five hypotheses are developed as follows:
