Investigators should consider the liquid nitrogen separation method utilizing a cryogun as an innovative method for separating duct tape or gradual force for separating layers of duct tape for the recovery of latent impressions. The use of gradual force yielded 24 (48%) impressions that were rated as +3. The cryogun yielded 42 (84%) impressions that were rated as +3. n-Heptane produced no +2 or +3 quality prints; therefore, it is not recommended for separating layers of duct tape when attempting to recover latent impressions with suspension powder.
