A former Florida cop has pleaded guilty to stealing his dead stepbrother’s identity and hoarding firearms and explosives at his Alaska hideaway.
Joseph Keenan May, 60, will face prison time after changing his plea to guilty at a Friday hearing in the U.S. District Court in Anchorage less than a week before his trial was expected to begin.
May inititally pleaded not guilty to two indictments filed in June and July after federal agents arrested him in late June at his Eagle River home in Alaska when a tip led authorities straight to the disgraced former Manatee County deputy.
He spent 23 years on the lam after fleeing prosecution in 1993 for the alleged sexual assaults of a 6-year-old girl in the 1970s.
